Belgium’s Federal Service for Financial Services and Markets (FSMA) announced that it has identified six cryptocurrency platforms that continue to operate without the required registration following the entry into force of new EU rules on the regulation of crypto-assets (MiCA). The agency emphasized that these platforms do not meet the transparency and investor protection standards established by European legislation and may pose a significant threat to users.

Effective July 1, 2026, the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) is in force across the European Union, requiring mandatory registration and compliance with strict anti-money laundering and customer protection requirements. The FSMA notes that despite the new rules, six companies—whose names were published on the regulator’s official website—continue to offer their services to Belgian citizens without authorization.

The FSMA strongly recommends that investors thoroughly verify a platform’s status before investing: according to the regulator, more than 70% of complaints about cryptocurrency scams in 2025 were related to unregistered services. The agency emphasizes that the lack of official registration significantly increases the risk of losing funds and the inability to seek legal recourse.

The FSMA continues to monitor the market and urges citizens to report suspicious platforms in order to improve the security of digital investments in the country.
