Hollywood is launching production of the film “Killing Satoshi,” dedicated to the enigmatic figure of Satoshi Nakamoto. The director will be Doug Liman, best known for “The Bourne Identity” and “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” The sсript promises a mix of drama, political intrigue, and espionage. Casey Affleck and Pete Davidson will play the leading roles, though details about their characters remain undisclosed.

Satoshi Nakamoto is the pseudonym of a person or group who in 2008 published the “Bitcoin whitepaper” – the first document describing how a decentralized digital currency could work. In 2009, he launched the first Bitcoin network and later communicated with developers via forums and email. By 2010, Nakamoto withdrew from public view, handing over control of the code to other programmers. The creator’s identity remains unknown, while the value of wallets attributed to Nakamoto is estimated in the billions of dollars.

According to Liman, “Killing Satoshi” is not a film about cryptography or exchanges but rather a story about power, money, and those who try to shape their future. At the heart of the plot are conspiracies involving governments, corporations, and intelligence agencies seeking either to expose or conceal the identity of Bitcoin’s creator. The director describes it as a David versus Goliath story, where an unknown programmer challenges the global financial systеm.

Over the years, there have been numerous attempts to uncover Nakamoto’s identity. Suspects have included Japanese engineer Dorian Nakamoto, Australian entrepreneur Craig Wright, and even collectives of developers from U.S. universities. None of these claims have ever been proven. Today, Nakamoto is regarded as both a symbol of independence from traditional financial systems and a legendary figure within the cryptocurrency community.

Filming is scheduled to begin in October 2025 in London, with the premiere expected in 2026. The movie is already being compared to “The Social Network,” which depicted the drama surrounding Facebook’s creation. If Liman’s vision is realized, audiences will see a large-scale story of how one person’s idea changed the concept of money.

The film may also influence how society perceives Bitcoin. For many, cryptocurrency remains an abstract concept, while a cinematic thriller could make the story more accessible and engaging to mainstream audiences. This project may become the first major attempt to portray the crypto world not only from a financial but also a cultural perspective.
